YORK and CARLISLE, PA. (Oct. 5, 2026) — UPMC will host Student and Parent Career Night events in York and Carlisle in October to introduce area students and their parents to rewarding careers in health care.
Health care is one of the fastest growing employment sectors in the United States, where careers can range from direct patient care, like nursing, rehabilitation or patient care support to behind-the-scenes work in a laboratory or pharmacy to non-clinical positions in support services and professional or administrative areas.
Students and their families will have an opportunity to meet with staff from a variety of UPMC departments to talk about the many opportunities in health care fields and find out what education and skills they would need to pursue a career in the industry.
Participants can meet and talk with representatives from nursing, imaging, Community LifeTeam (EMS), pharmacy, information technology (IT), physician offices, respiratory therapy and other areas while participating in hands-on demonstrations. They can also chat with volunteer services to learn about ways students can get involved with volunteering at the hospital.
Schools and colleges with health education programs will also be in attendance to share information about their programs and discuss the education and skills needed for various careers.
