Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Capital Region (BBBSCR) Raises $86k with Over The Edge Rooftop Rappel
82 individuals brave 18-story descent to raise funds and awareness for BBBSCR youth mentoring programs
Harrisburg, PA (October 17, 2024) – Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Capital Region (BBBSCR) took the community to Harrisburg’s skyline with Over The Edge, a rooftop rappelling adventure fundraiser.
On Friday, October 4th, over 80 daring participants climbed to the roof of Market Square Plaza in downtown Harrisburg and braved a 200-foot rappel down the face of the building in support of the youth mentoring organization.
“We soared past our goal this year, and the timing could not have been any better; our services increased 53 percent over the last year, and we are extending our reach into 2 counties. We are incredibly grateful to our sponsors, participants, donors and volunteers who helped us raise $86,782, with donations still coming in, and filled every available rappel spot,” shared Mary Murphy, BBBSCR VP of Development.
As they prepared for their exhilarating ascent to new heights, many participants surpassed their fundraising goals.
“Every dollar makes a difference, keeping our programs going and growing – creating life-changing friendships and empowering youth to dream BIG!” says Murphy.
The event brought the community together, strengthening the network of support for over 1,000 young people across the organization’s 7-county service area.
Over The Edge was made possible thanks to the generosity and dedication of individual rappelers and corporate sponsors including Presenting Sponsor, Fleet Repair Solutions, LLC.

“There are so many kids that want to be Littles that are looking for someone in their lives to show them what’s available out there,” says Kemmerer. “I really hope that us being able to donate a little and to go Over The Edge with a few of our employees will help bring attention to the need that’s here.”
